Interim Director
Dr. Mark Shanley

Continuing his distinguished career in student affairs, Dr. Shanley joined Miami University in October of 2008 as the interim Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. His experience in this field is extensive, with eleven years of prior experience at Northern Kentucky University as Associate Professor of Education and Vice President for Student Affairs, five years at Truman State University as Dean of Student Affairs, and eleven years at the University of South Carolina at Columbia as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and several other positions. Dr. Shanley received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at the University of Cincinnati, a Masters of Science in Education from Indiana University, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Shanley enjoys working closely with students and participating in student activities and organizations. He has made a personal career commitment to student learning and personal development and considers working with students as his calling in life.

Assistant Director
Sarah Woiteshek

Upon completing her undergraduate work at Longwood University in Virginia, Sarah Woiteshek came to Miami University for her Master's Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education. During her time in graduate school she worked closely with the Harry T. Wilks Leadership Institute to develop and coordinate the Spring and Fall High School Leadership Conferences. Her professional interests include leadership development as well as service-learning and community engagement work.

Mike is a sophomore Political Science major. Mike's specialized role within Wilks is promoting the Institute on a national level. This year he will be selecting a conference where Wilks can participate and present the central mission of the Institute to a large audience. Mike defines his responsibility as a Community Assistant as not only promoting and pushing forward our mission within the confines of our organization, but to also working towards a wider awareness of our ideas and initiatives. Within the local community Mike is involved as the acting Chair for the City of Oxford's Community Relations Commission, and on campus he is currently a scholar leader, as well as a member of Collegiate Chorale and The Amicus Curiae Pre-Law Society.

Kelly is a Junior Philosophy and Psychology double major. Kelly's focus within Wilks is to build and facilitate on campus learning circles. She is extremely passionate about the theory and practice of public leadership and hopes to use her position as a Community Assistant to redefine the definition and role of public leadership within her generation. Kelly is also a scholar leader this year and is most looking forward to being a part of an intimate group that shares common goals and can set a precedent for other future Wilks programs. On campus Kelly is the treasurer for the College Democrats, VP of Stage Left and a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

Sophia Hischak, Wilks Community Assistant hischasi@muohio.edu
Sophia is a senior this year Psychology major with a minor in Management. Sofia's focus within the Wilks Institute is the High School Community Engagement Program. Through her experience in Wilks, Sophia hopes to provide students with the opportunity to expand and grow within the community. In addition to being a Community Assistant, Sophia is the acting president of the student organization L.Y.L.A.S (Love you like a sister), and also a member of both the NAACP and the MU Club of Fashion Merchandise and Design.

Meghan is a sophomore this year with a double major in American Studies and Public Administration. Meghan's specialization within the Institute is campus outreach development as well as scholar recruitment. She defines her experience as a Community Assistant as an opportunity to be an outlet to those seeking the resources to explore community engagement and public leadership and incorporate them into their experience at Miami and beyond. Meghan is a member of the current Shaping Sustainable Communities cohort as well as the Greek community on campus.
