The Harry T. Wilks Leadership Institute is committed to promoting community-based learning experiences that prepare students to become engaged public leaders and informed global citizens while also enriching and giving back to the communities that surround and support Miami University. By connecting students and communities, in Southwest Ohio and around the world, the Wilks Leadership Institute advances the understanding and practice of the types of engaged leadership necessary for building a vibrant democratic society today and in the future. The Institute was established as the result of an endowment from Miami graduate and renowned philanthropist and attorney, Harry T. Wilks.

Academic Achievment Award Winners

On August 21st 2009 at the Bicentennial Convocation, nine students received the Provost Student Academic Achievement Award. The award is to recognize the students for outstanding academic achievement and notable contributions to the intellectual climate of Miami. Two of the winners, Benjamin Walker and Mike Eilers are Wilks Scholars in the Scholar Leader program.

Wilks Scholars Meet with Harry T Wilks at Pyramid Hill 8/29

On August the 29th the Wilks Scholars and staff traveled to Pyramid Hill for a day of team building. Pyramid Hill is a public sculpture park in Hamilton, where Harry T Wilks displays his sculpture collection on a vast campus of 265 acres. Mr.Wilks also resides on the campus in his home that he designed himself.

Wilks Scholar and MU graduate completes honors thesis on Acting Locally work

Jessica Reading, a 2008 Acting Locally program Wilks Scholar and a 2009 Miami University graduate, completed an Honor's Thesis on her Acting Locally work sponsored through the Wilks Leadership Institute and the Department of American Studies. Jessica's thesis was directed by Dr. Jarrett Bromberg and read by Dr. Peggy Shaffer & Rebecca Luzadis.

High School Engagement Program hosts spring retreat at MU Oxford
