Acting Locally Scholar Mia DeNardi Featured by Miami Student NewsSun, 11/15/2009 - 13:39

On Tuesday November 3rd Mia DeNardi presented her plan for an Amtrak station to ASG. Mia began the project in her urban planning class and has continued to work on it over the previous year and current semester in the Acting Locally program. ASG approved her effort to push for a station here in Oxford.

On Tuesday Oct.27th Wilks Scholar Liz Garret discussed her 2010-2011 student mentoring program with the Hamilton City School District Board of Education. Her intent for the program is a community-wide program that would provide a one-on-one mentoring partnership with students in Hamilton’s middle schools and at MUH.

Academic Achievment Award Winners

On August 21st 2009 at the Bicentennial Convocation, nine students received the Provost Student Academic Achievement Award. The award is to recognize the students for outstanding academic achievement and notable contributions to the intellectual climate of Miami. Two of the winners, Benjamin Walker and Mike Eilers are Wilks Scholars in the Scholar Leader program.

On August the 29th the Wilks Scholars and staff traveled to Pyramid Hill for a day of team building. Pyramid Hill is a public sculpture park in Hamilton, where Harry T Wilks displays his sculpture collection on a vast campus of 265 acres. Mr.Wilks also resides on the campus in his home that he designed himself.
