Wilks Scholar and MU graduate completes honors thesis on Acting Locally work

Jessica Reading, a 2008 Acting Locally program Wilks Scholar and a 2009 Miami University graduate, completed an Honor's Thesis on her Acting Locally work sponsored through the Wilks Leadership Institute and the Department of American Studies. Jessica's thesis was directed by Dr. Jarrett Bromberg and read by Dr. Peggy Shaffer & Rebecca Luzadis.

Election Day!

Miami University encourages all students to take part in the election process. On election day, each voter will need to provide identification at the polling place. In order to help meet the voter identification needs of its students, Miami University created a web site that will allow students to print a letter confirming the address that is on Miami University’s records. Miami officials believe this form can be utilized as identification at the polling places on election day.

First Friday Breakfast on October 3, 2008

First Friday Breakfasts are a monthly meal & conversation open to local and regional community members, Miami faculty, staff, and students. These breakfasts will serve as a forum to share ideas and strategies for engaging Miami students in the communities surrounding the University.

The second breakfast of the year will be held on Friday, October 3, 7:30 – 9:00 AM. The topic is "Models of Community Engagement."

Hector Aristizabal to perform and offer a workshop at Miami

Hector Aristizabal, theatre practitioner and psychologist, will visit Miami on September 5 and 6 to perform and offer an interactive theatre-based workshop. Hector's powerful play, Nightwind, recounts his experiences being tortured by the US-supported military in his native Colombia, and explores possible responses.

Harvest Moon Festival

The Harvest Moon Dinner features local foods, prepared by Miami University Wilks Scholars and friends. Featuring special guest speaker Carol Goland, Executive Director of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association.

John Saltmarsh Visits Miami

John Saltmarsh is the Director of the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) at the University of Massachusetts, Boston as well as a faculty member in the Department of Leadership in Education in the Graduate College of Education. From 1998 through 2005, he directed the Project on Integrating Service with Academic Study at Campus Compact.
