Registration for MADE@Miami is now open!
You are invited to join us for MADE@Miami!
August 20-22, 2013
A three-day experience for underrepresented first-year students who are ready to make the most out of Miami.
MADE@Miami is designed to help you get the most out of your Miami experience. We promote qualities valued by the university community—Mentoring, Achievement, Diversity, and Excellence.
MADE@Miami is open to all entering first-year undergraduate students; students of color, international students, and students receiving Miami Access Initiative scholarships are strongly encouraged to attend.
Mentoring: Meet students, faculty, and staff who can guide you.
Achievement: Get resources to help you succeed academically.
Diversity: Learn about your fellow classmates and where we come from.
Excellence: Find out how to make the most of your time at Miami.
Meet other first-year students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. Meet faculty and staff who will serve as informal mentors during the academic year. As a benefit to attending MADE, you will be able to move into your residence hall (the same room you will have for the whole year) early. Commuter students are invited to join us as well!
This program is free to you, with meals included. However, if you register and then do not attend the entirety of MADE, we will charge your bursar account for the cost of your housing ($60).
MADE@Miami will take place from August 20 - August 22. It is a free program, and you will be able to move into your residence hall (the room you will have all year long) early.
International students: MADE will not conflict with any portion of international orientation.
August Orientation students: If you are scheduled for August Orientation, you will skip the Wednesday afternoon session of MADE, but will be able to attend everything else.
Band students: If you are attending band camp during this week, you will not be able to attend MADE.
Families: If they wish, your family is invited to join us for the family session from 3:30 - 4:30 on August 20. We ask your family to leave campus by 6:00 PM so that you can continue getting acclimated to campus.
We invite you to check in with us between 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on August 20, and use the day to move in and get settled on campus. The program begins at 3:30 PM, with a welcome session for you and your family. You will have a chance to meet your Peer Leader (a current student who will stay with you throughout the program) and your Peer Group. The family session runs from 3:30 - 4:30 pm, and families are asked to leave campus by 6:00 PM. At 6, you will join students, staff, and faculty for an Opening Banquet. In the evening, we will get to know each other.
All day, you will get acclimated to campus and meet people who will help you make the most of Miami. Learn about diversity and academic-related resources, find out about fun things to do on campus, and make friends with first year students. In the evening, we have a barbecue and a chance to reflect on your identity and what brought you to Miami.
Staff and faculty will lead engaging conversations about your goals and ambitions for Miami, and where you can seek support if you feel that you don't fit in. We will wrap up by 12:30 PM and you will have the rest of the afternoon to finish settling in before your hall meetings that evening.
