This is just something I was thinking and felt I should post.
We were sitting outside of the school building one night in the community of Tzajalchen. It was Robert, Rob, Juilo, Ben and I. We were all [at least me] thinking about what we were learning and how much our friends and families have different opinions on the topics of NAFTA and immigration that contradict everything that is real in Tzajalchen- opinions that no one wants to question or change.
Robert asked an interesting question about the legitimacy of arguing with someone in order to change his or her opinion. After talking about it we asked Julio. He replied with this story.
When you say no to power and the way everyone is moving and thinking. You to to say no, and offer an alternative.
We aren’t going to stop a train by standing in front of it because it will push us down. We will be on the side of the train walking together-our own way. We don’t need a train to walk.
Only our feet.
To leave our footprints.
When you turn around many people will be following your footsteps. You will leave a path. After walking for a bit. There will be many people. So many people that a train would be enough.
I thought this was interesting- a good way to think and see. I think that there isn’t any reason to try and convince people. They have to see. That is maybe the hardest part in coming back to the states. We have seen these things. I would say we have seen these truths, but there is no reason that everyone has to see them like we do. We’ll just should try to show what we’ve seen. From that change can happen? Maybe.
