So there was some confusion yesterday about the two maps on remittances. They did indeed represent the amount of dollars flowing into a country by overseas migrants. But two things: first, we don’t really know from where the money came. Second, we don’t really have any finer-grained sense of the geography within countries.
This map addresses both of those WRT to the U.S. and Mexico.

Also, please take a look at this article about Cape Verde from the New York Times. In particular, spend a few minutes looking at the interactive map that accompanies the article. What kinds of generalizations can you make about the geographic aspects of contemporary migration based on these data?
